What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal works by using a specific wavelength of light, which is aimed at the base of the hair follicle on the skin.
This light is attracted to melanin (the pigment in our hair), which creates heat in the follicle.
This heat then damages the hair and hair follicle, which weakens or stops the hair from growing back in the future.
Once treated, the hairs that were actively growing at the time of the treatment naturally fall out over a period of about 1-3 weeks.
When you are on a Laser Hair Removal course of treatments, you’ll notice that the time between treatments is spaced out.
This is because when we are doing the treatment, we’re trying to make sure that we’re targeting hairs in their active growing stage.
This is important because it’s during this stage that the hair follicle is intact and is actively being fed by the blood supply.
It’s during this stage that we get maximum effect, and with usually up to only 20% of hairs in this growth stage at any one time, it’s important that to get long term hair removal, you come regularly for treatments so that we can catch the hairs in this stage frequently.
